The situation
Nielsen Light is a Danish lamp manufacturer that had only ever sold B2B. They wanted to reach consumers directly, which meant a Shopify store, a product catalogue restructured for retail, and a team that had never merchandised online before.
There was no existing store to improve on. Everything started at zero.
What we built
We worked directly with the designer on their team and built the storefront from scratch, then handled the parts of the move that sit underneath the design.
Product data. Their catalogue lived in Plytix, their PIM. We connected that data into Shopify through in-app connections and a Metafields and Metaobjects structure, so the product information merchants rely on stays authoritative in one place.
Custom sections. The centrepiece is the Lamp Picker, which lets a customer configure a lamp from its component parts and receive a bundle discount for doing it.

Alongside it we built related-product upsells, sections that present technical product detail through diagrams, and custom filtering.

Backend tooling. We wrote custom migration scripts and custom apps so their team can manage backend data in Shopify without wrestling with it.
Seasonal work. We build custom seasonal themes for them, including a Black Friday treatment with countdown timers to push urgency during the window that matters most.

Apps and training. We researched, recommended, installed, and now maintain their third-party apps. We also consulted on Shopify best practices and ran training sessions for their staff covering Products, Collections, Blogs, Tags, Pages, and the rest of the fundamentals, so the team can run the store day to day without calling a developer for routine changes.
The result
A fully functional custom Shopify theme, a curated app stack chosen for their business rather than inherited by accident, and custom sections that do things no off-the-shelf theme offers. We still work and consult with them on a regular basis.
What Nielsen Light says.
“We have been working with Danny for almost two years. From the beginning, Danny introduced us to Shopify and helped us understand what was possible with the platform. What I particularly appreciate is that he has taken the time to listen to our ideas and understand how we want our webshop to work, and then found ways to turn those ideas into practical Shopify solutions.
Our collaboration has continued well beyond the initial launch. We normally meet every week or every second week to discuss new ideas, improvements and functionality, and Danny is responsive, flexible and easy to work with. Over time, we have developed a webshop with several customised solutions tailored to our business and our customers.
I would recommend Danny to companies looking for a Shopify developer who listens, understands their needs and can be a long-term partner in developing their webshop.”
